New Beginnings

New beginnings can be exciting! I associate them with growth, new opportunities, fresh approaches, etc. And do you know where they can be found? On the other side of change.

We’ve discussed change and how it is a part of life. One that there is no use in fighting, though it takes grace and intentionality to navigate it well. But what if we reframed it altogether and considered the potential of new beginnings? Doesn’t that add an extra anticipation to the thought of change? Like opportunity and adventure are awaiting?!

Growth

If we don’t change we don’t have room for growth. That’s a simple fact. But when we lean in and give our best, open our hands and trust God with the process, incredible growth can happen. I’m sure you’ve heard – and maybe even experienced – how God can bless your efforts and promote you more than you anticipated.

Work that should have taken months to accomplish comes together in a fraction of the time; someone goes above and beyond to help you in unexpected ways; an epiphany helps you master something far easier than you anticipated; etc. When we stop fighting change and release our affections and expectations to God, amazing things happen. We experience faith and confidence that God knows what He is doing. This relief can even turn to anticipation as we lean into new beginnings.

As Christians, we should always be working to become better versions of who God has called us to be. Fine-tuning our skills, improving our attitudes, becoming more efficient at our work and jobs. We are His representatives and our goal should be to bring glory to His name!

New Opportunities

New opportunities take work, but on the flipside, holding steady where you are takes work too. We frequently get the opportunity to level up and choose something higher or more advanced. True it takes work to claim this new opportunity, but I think it is so important to consider the work involved in clinging to what we’ve always done.

There’s a list that I see go around that is such a good reminder: Choose Your Hard. The list goes through real life example such as:

Marriage is hard. Divorce is hard. Choose your hard.

Obesity is hard. Being fit is hard. Choose your hard.

Being in debt is hard. Being financially disciplined is hard. Choose your hard.

Starting a business is hard. Working a 9 to 5 is hard. Choose your hard.

Life will never be easy, but you get to choose your hard. Choose wisely!

To this list I might add: New opportunities are hard. Fighting change is hard. Choose your hard.

Isn’t it incredible how a fresh perspective can really help us reframe our thoughts on something. Change is framed as such a thing to fear and fight. I talk with quite a few people throughout my day at work and they seem to say the same thing: I hate change. And I get, I do. I’ve been battling this myself.

But then one day I realized the virtuous woman in Proverbs 31 “laughs without fear of the future“. How on earth does one do get to that point? Perhaps by reframing change from something to fear instead to a new opportunity full of potential!

Fresh Approaches

What fresh approaches can we take with these new beginnings to make the most of them? As always we can pray and ask to see things from God’s perspective. Ask that He might stretch our imagination and vision into what He wants to accomplish. And then show up faithfully wherever He has you.

Sometimes a lot seems to change and other times precious little seems to. But it is our job to trust God with the process and remain faithful in prayer, seeking His direction. Just because you don’t see immediate results don’t give up praying and seeking. God does not and never has worked on man’s timeline. Rather He works on a much higher plane than we can understand.

He has amazing and incredible plans and knows just how to get you where He needs you. Submit to Him, seek Him and give your best and you can be sure that He will lead you when the time is right!

New beginnings are on the horizon: get excited and see what the Lord can do when we surrender our affections and really lean into where He leads!

Until Next Time!

Hope.
