Who are you becoming? As each day goes by, things stay steady or circumstances shift, who is the person that you are stepping into?
Or if you look back, who did you used to be? Does the progress reflect God well? Are you boldly stepping into where He is directing?
Who are you becoming? Not just professionally, but personally, one on one with family, or even by yourself. Who you are is a giant reflection on what you believe.
Who Are You Becoming Professionally
Perhaps you are just finishing school or college and you are about to step into your next chapter. Who do you envision becoming? What goals and aspirations and dreams have led you to this moment? Each decision you make either better prepares you for what’s ahead or distracts you.
Perhaps the goal isn’t to go onto college, but to grow in real life skills such as homemaking and gardening. These skills are just as important – if not more so – as professional skills. Keeping a tidy, well-stocked home is a definite skill. Having food on the table fresh from the garden is a luxury few can afford. Navigating these opportunities with grace and joy is admirable.
God is amazing about directing our steps when we ask. Sometimes His direction is easy to determine, whereas others it seems distant and not announced yet. But be sure, if your sights are set on Him, the inclinations and dreams you have are there for a purpose. There rarely is a discernible timeline, but when the time is right, God will bring it together!
God’s ways are higher than our ways and His plans are perfect. We are allowed to pray and ask what He has for us, seek His will, and pursue opportunities. He has a perfect track record for getting us where He needs us. Our job is to be completely surrender to His will. Bold as lions and meek as lambs.
Discerning where God is leading is a defining moment in who we are becoming. God’s ways are simply higher and better than ours. Always seek to raise the bar, set high standards, and give your very best.
Who Are You Becoming Within Your Family
Who we are within our own families is so important! God handpicked you for your family and your family for you. And He doesn’t make mistakes. Learn to get along well with even your most difficult family members and you will probably be able to get along within most anyone you meet in life. This doesn’t mean that you have to be besties with difficult people, but rather there is power in not letting difficult people get under your skin.
Who do you want to be in your family? Someone who is available and fun? Someone who will help when folks ask? Thoughtful and a peacemaker? Envision the best version of who you can be and then practice becoming it. The goal is to be sincerely who you are, with a heart for those around you.
Get to know your individual family members well and ask God to help you be a positive influence in their lives. Encourage those around you. Take time to listen and seek to really understand what they have to share. Though some individuals may particularly irk us, it could be an opportunity directly from God to work on our own character flaws.
Be certain that your family wouldn’t be complete without you in it. God has been planning your story since the foundation of the world. Step into it boldly and gratefully. Ask God how you might grow within the parameters He has placed you in so that you might be a real blessing to those around you!
Who Are You Becoming Towards Yourself
How do you talk to yourself? What do you think of yourself? Do you realize you are made in the image of Almighty God? Did you know your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit? All these things matter and are incredibly important! Who you have been is in the past. Who you are becoming is where you (and each of us) need to focus and work!
How do you talk to yourself? Or about yourself? What are your secret thoughts that play in your head? Though we are each most familiar with our flaws, we should do our best to see what God sees. Pay attention to the narrative in your head and learn to retrain it. I really think this is something we have all had to work on, so don’t feel alone! Instead, nail down some thoughts that replay and find a Scriptural positive response to them.
For instance, I used to stumble all the time. Inside my head I’d be down on myself for tripping and not paying better attention. But then, I reframed it to thank the Lord for giving me sure footing. For helping me walk and not stumble, run and not fall. Those are references straight from the Bible.
Even now, if I’m concerned about traffic or a situation or some such, and I feel the uncertainty rise, I immediately thank God for making me well able and capable. Secure in Him and the path He has me on. The truth is we can never have too much confidence in God. It’s just not humanly possible! So read His word and believe it. Fill your mind with confidence in Him. And be certain that through Him, we are well able to navigate what comes our way.
Now consider again, who are you becoming? Aim higher than before. We should only look back at our failures to use them as fuel of our potential. Where you have been is not nearly as important as where you are heading! Look to God, level up, lift your gaze, and smile! With God, all things are possible!
Until Next Time!
Hope.
