You are a mirror for what you want to attract into your life. In order to surround yourself with high quality people and opportunities, you must work to be the best you can be.
Being a mirror isn’t just about what you attract, but also what you reflect. The character of God is supposed to be reflected through His people. Are you giving Him a good name? Is your attitude and the way that you are treating people recommending Him?
We as Christians are called to set an example, to represent God well, and to demonstrate by the way we live that we are set apart from the world. It is an important responsibility that we must take seriously in all areas of our lives.
Family
How you treat your family and those closest to you says a lot about your character and your attitude. As the saying goes, the most important work you will ever do is within the walls of your own home. Practice extra levels of patience and kindness. Make deliberate efforts to let your family know you love them.
Sometimes it is easier to be nice to a stranger at the store than your closest family members. But work at it, learn to love them well and you will help contribute to a peaceful home environment. Also, as you learn how to get along with your family members – even if they can be quite difficult – you will find in time to come how this has equipped you well to get along with random people and coworkers that God brings into your life.
You are a mirror for your familial relationships. Practice kindness, thoughtfulness, and delight in being with and seeing them – we all need cheerleaders in our lives! Become that for your family! Light up the room, bring peace and comfort to a situation, show up with energy to help with projects, etc.
Don’t rush the time you spend with your family. God handpicked your family specifically for you and you for them. Don’t fight it but lean into it! Pray for them, encourage them, and learn to love them well. You are a mirror – your efforts will be a blessing and in turn help reflect well on your entire family!
Relationships
You are a mirror for the relationships in your life – be they familial, romantic, professional, or casual. You can’t make an average effort in them and expect high quality results. Raise the bar and determine how to level up your efforts. Remember, you are a representative of the Most High God!
There is a saying that I love, something along the lines that the best relationship is the one where each person suspects they got the better deal. Isn’t that perfect? True, I want that in a relationship someday soon, but I also work to bring that to the relationships I have now with family, friends, and work. You are a mirror in all areas of your life and it is vital to give your best for God’s glory!
Part of being a mirror is in considering how you spend your time and who you include in your life. Are these individuals encouraging your walk with God? Are they challenging you to grow and step into all you can be? Or are they just hanging out, casually going from one thing to the next, no goals and no focus?
Resting and taking a break is in no way wrong – in fact it is important to pause. But you need to surround yourself with people who switch gears and get right back to doing the work that God has given you. Taking life seriously and working for God doesn’t exclude special times and exciting moments. Rather He brings those as a byproduct when we take our life’s work seriously.
Consider the relationships you surround yourself with and make sure they reflect God well. Because if something or someone isn’t helping draw you closer to God, they are coming between you and God and that’s not good.
Work
You are mirror every single day at work. The attitude you bring, the time you show up, the energy you bring to the table, the work you complete, etc. Aim to knock it out of the park! Self-discipline helps us accomplish our work on time and not goof off. It inspires important care in our health and that in turn determines how we show up each day. Level up and ask God how you might reflect Him better in what He has for you to do.
So much of influencing people for Christianity is not in what we say or how often we reference church, but truly by the way we live our everyday lives and speak about our family. People are always watching and listening, how you live is a mirror to their vision of Christianity. That is a very important role we play in the lives of people we may never even meet.
Make sure the work you do honors God. One instance of this personally is the books we carry at our bookstore. We could fill it with popular books and bestsellers, but the content in these books are not something I’d be comfortable with reading to my child, dad, or Christ. So instead, we handpick the books that we carry to only include those that we feel honor God. Do we miss out on sales? Absolutely. But our business has never been about quantity of sales, but rather quality of product.
Many, many others who call themselves Christians read these books and don’t bat an eye. They don’t get it. But my job isn’t to live up to their standards, but rather the standards God has impressed on me. Will they get it someday? Possibly – but that’s not my concern. God didn’t direct me to critique another’s reading material, simply to do the work He has set before me.
Remember, you are a mirror. What you reflect is what you let in your life. As Christians, we are called to be set apart and holy, not worldly. Aim higher and watch what God brings into your life as you make His ways your ultimate prize!
Until Next Time!
Hope.

I like your ‘how to’ examples, even the title: You Are a Mirror! You encourage me in the details of living with others and before God. Thank you.
