Rest in the Lord

“Rest in the LORD and wait patiently for Him; Do not get upset because of one who is successful in his way, Because of the person who carries out wicked schemes.” – Psalm 37:7

It is such a blessing to rest in the Lord. To feel secure in His omnipotence and power and be at ease with what goes on around us.

Lately I’ve found that so much of life presents the opportunity to remember to rest, to surrender the need to try to control a situation. To choose peace rather than concern of the unknown.

Wait Patiently

Part of learning to rest in the Lord is mastering a calm patience despite the unknown. God is in charge and in control and knows full well the plans He has for each of us. True rest comes when we can completely let go and trust God with the details. Confident that when the time is right, He will bring things together.

I’ve personally discovered so many opportunities to wait patiently lately. Whether it is at home or at work, personal or professional, waiting seems to be a recurring theme. How much better is it for us when we can learn to wait patiently and gratefully. To rest in the Lord and in the waiting, knowing that worrying won’t change a thing, but rather show a lack of trust in our Father.

Next time you begin to feel impatient, remind yourself of God’s track record: it’s perfect! And then rest in that knowledge. At ease, full of peace, and completely confident that He will bring things together at just the right moment – and more than likely not a moment sooner!

Do Not Get Upset

Waiting can be upsetting, can’t it? If it’s not our idea, than why should we wait?

I get it and I have struggled with that as much as the next person. But I want to start a new chapter of stronger faith and confident patience. I have literally found myself practicing resting in scenarios, real or imagined, strengthening my proverbial spiritual muscles.

We’ve talked about imperturbability before, and this is where that rest can be found. Deep, restoring, peaceful rest. It is a daily choice we get to make. Not because things don’t come up, not because petty annoyances don’t happen, but rather because we get to choose our reaction. We get to choose God’s peace over frustrations.

And do you know this choice is completely possible because of the grace God so generously gives! It is simply up to us to choose to accept this grace. To choose peace and surrender, and to choose to rest in the Lord.

Rest in the Lord

Choosing to rest in the Lord doesn’t come from a place of weakness or passivity. Quite the opposite, because when we choose to let God be God, to patiently rest in Him and trust Him for the outcome, He fights our battles for us!

Realistically, what does this look like? Perhaps it is demonstrated in our patience towards petty annoyances, paperwork delays, or things outside of our control. Perhaps it is found when we rest instead of striving, remain ready and willing to do the work without loosing our peace should we not have the availability or opportunity.

And to take it even further, perhaps true rest comes when you realize it is only for a season, so you make the most of it and praise God for it. Maybe it’s more about obedience than keeping track and keeping score. It’s about letting go of our own plans and letting God lead us where He needs us.

True rest comes with a peace that surpasses understanding. And the realization that you don’t have to fully understand before you obey. Obedience and surrender are key.

Until Next Time!

Hope.
