Daughters of the American Revolution

For the past few years I’ve been a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. It is a lovely group of ladies whose focus is God, Home and Country.

We begin every meeting pledging allegiance to the flag and singing our national anthem. Our group is patriotic and God-fearing, two things that are very important to me!

Together we raise money to restore historic sites, encourage youth, and show our gratitude to veterans. If you have an ancestor who served in the Revolutionary War, you should see about joining your local DAR chapter!

Who is it for?

Well, women – obviously – to begin with. Perhaps you are like me and want to show your support and gratitude to our veterans but aren’t sure how. You can be sure your local DAR has multiple opportunities to encourage and bless our vets.

It might be shipping out care packages or visiting local Veteran’s Homes, we seek to give back to those who have given so much to us.

We also promote patriotism. Many children aren’t aware of the Constitution and the importance it has. We go out of our way to connect with local children to begin to help them learn this vital document.

Preserving History

Another key element that I appreciate about the DAR is that we help to preserve history. Whether it is donating to restoration or volunteering to tidy sites, we do our best to show our gratitude and interest in the past so that future generations can continue to enjoy these pieces of history.

Lineage is also important to us, as this is where we come from. It is precious to learn of your past forefathers and know the path they have come. I say it a lot, but this life isn’t about you, but rather what you are called to do. And knowing what those before you have accomplished can often be key in realizing what you can do!

Personally, whenever I begin to feel overwhelmed in everyday life, I think back to what my grand and great-grandmothers went through on a daily basis and it really puts my life in perspective. Our lives are filled with opportunities, but it is our job to realize them and serve others well.

Politics

The DAR promotes patriotism but stays out of politics. With how crazy the world is, I am eager to see the DAR continue it’s motto of God, Home and Country. I hope and pray that it will stay away from crazy liberal ideologies.

In my opinion, you can’t embrace liberal ideals and honor God and country, so I am hopeful they will stay focused on their goals and continue to stay out of politics.
