Preparing for the Unknown

Preparing for the Unknown

Preparing for the unknown can be complicated. Since it is unknown, it can be difficult to determine how much or what exactly to prepare.

In town, we have a high profile court case coming to our small city. To say it is the largest thing we will most likely see in town in our lifetime isn’t an exaggeration. We even have international press covering the story as well as many other news stations.

Where to Begin

I often think that getting started is the hardest thing to do – especially with unknowns. It’s always a gamble how much to prepare. Too much and you’ve wasted resources and time, not enough and there’s a wild scramble trying to do more.

Personally, I think I’d rather be overprepared than underprepared. Not to the extent of wasting resources, but have in the back of my mind how to re-utilize said resources.

For instance, for this trial, we are offering freshly brewed coffee for the hundreds of outsiders who will be coming in. We really have no idea just how many people will walk the half block to our shop. Twenty? Five? A hundred? We have prepared for a decent number. We have multiple coffee pots set to go and several hundred cups on hand.

Worst case, we’re overprepared and will use the coffee cups along and along. Best case, we are right on par and will be a real asset to our community.

How to Prepare

Trying to determine how to prepare is a bit of a gamble. You can figure and guess all day, but there’s really no way of knowing.

As I always encourage you to do, I pray about it. Ask God for specific direction and guidance, and then based on what I find and learn, I make the best judgment that I can. God is in the details and I trust that He will guide me where He needs me, as long as I am attentive to Him.

It is fascinating to me how God always answers prayers. Maybe not in the way or timeline we might anticipate, but He always answers. It is our job to remember to show up and ask Him for direction.

Step Out in Faith

I’d be lying if I didn’t say I was a bit nervous or unsettled about the unknown impact the case will have on our town, our business and our lives the next few weeks. People have been asking me if I’m worried about it, and I’ve been doing my best not to be.

I’ve heard a range of wild speculations as to what impact this situation will have, but the truth of the matter is that there is no knowing until we get there. People can speculate all day long but nobody – other than God – knows.

And that’s something else that amazes and thrills me – I know this situation is for my best! No, I wouldn’t have chosen it, but I am confident that all things work together for my good, and I know that if I show up and give God my best, this will honor and please Him!

The Unknown

With this confidence, even when preparing for the unknown, we can find peace and security in God’s perfect plans. He has an amazing way of orchestrating things and showing us His incredible favor!

I know I can do all things thru Christ who gives me strength. It is through the strength that we find in Him that we can step up and show up in trials and unknowns. He is forever faithful and holds us in the palm of His hand. Such a blessing to know this security and claim it!

May God help you through unknowns that you may be facing. Remember to cast your worries on God, knowing that He cares and will be with you every step of the way.

Until Next Time!

Hope.
