Are you living your dream? Maybe it’s that vision you had growing up – you always knew you wanted to fill in the blank. Or perhaps it’s something you curated along the way, making adjustments as you grew up and your tastes changed.
More than likely you aren’t entirely there yet. There are still things of which you dream and for what you pray. Living your dream is most likely something you aim for, adjust from time to time, and anticipate what’s ahead.
And to me that is the most beautiful thing! This gives you room for growth, room for your imagination to ponder and dream, and a continual adventure awaiting.
You Didn’t Miss It
You are never too old to dream a new dream. To start a new project or hobby, learn a new skill. You didn’t miss your one and only opportunity – if it is what God has for you, you can be sure it is on the way. Don’t worry!
And I would challenge you no matter how old you get to continually dream up new things to try and do. Be it gardening or sewing or baking or day-tripping, your new favorite hobby might be out there just waiting for you to discover it!
Remember that life is all about seasons and one thing seasons constantly do is change. So what may not have been right in a previous season may be on the menu this season! Similarly, perhaps something that’s always been there is no longer the right fit. Be willing to shift and grow with the times. And remember to keep your gaze fixed ahead, God is doing something new, there’s always something to anticipate and look forward to!
Room To Grow
Isn’t it fascinating how we always have room to grow? We serve a limitless God, so of course He wouldn’t be bound by anything. And since we are His, neither are we! Wow, doesn’t that just inspire you? That leaves so much room to brainstorm about pursuing and living your dream, doesn’t it? I once read that creativity is like a muscle, the more you use it the more you have of it, you don’t reach the end of it. And that thrilled me no end!
When I first started writing, I didn’t really know how long I would be able to keep up with it. Granted some of what I write is far better than other things, but I find that God keeps giving me content. It is fascinating! I write to bring glory to His name and to encourage and bless others.
And it’s funny to consider, though I’ve now filled eight books, writing is only a small piece of what I do. Typically I only spend an hour or so a week on it. But through consistency and faithfulness, it has grown far beyond my expectations. Was it my dream to write? No, I really don’t think so. But I chose the opportunity and it has been neat to see how God has blessed my efforts!
So as you consider living your dream, look past yourself and consider how you might pursue God and serve others better. As Christians it is always our duty to grow and be a blessing.
Living Your Dream
Does that mean it is wrong to have a dream, to work towards a goal and pursue a certain path? Absolutely not! But the goal of said dream is vitally important. Is the goal to make money based on the desire to be rich (whatever that means) or to live debt free? Is the dream of a husband and family a desire to escape where you are because you’re not happy or because you feel it is your role as a Christian woman to be a helpmeet to a husband and raise children to love God?
Attitude and intention are so important in life – as well as patience. Just because you have this dream in your heart for all the right reasons doesn’t mean it will come to pass in your timeline. Does it mean it is the wrong dream? Absolutely not! As you pursue your dream – and hopefully accomplish some details of it and add more to it along the way – remain faithful and hopeful. Ask God to inspire your dreams and then you can always be sure you are on the right path!
Ask for patience. I know this is controversial to say – so many say that when you ask for patience you are surrounded with opportunities to practice it. But let’s reframe it entirely. What if, when you ask for patience, this allows you to better utilize the grace you are given for situations. Perhaps these situations would have triggered you before, but now thanks to your specific request, you more gracefully navigate these situations with a better attitude?
Remember {and Adjust} the Goal
It’s so important to remember why we started something. To not get so deep in the work of it that we forget the overall goal. Busyness can make us forgetful. It can overwhelm us to the point that we’re struggling through our days. But that’s not the goal, so it’s important to know when adjustments need to be made.
Take time regularly to pause and consider the goal. To evaluate adjustments and expectations, seasons and routines. Living your dream is a day by day process and choice. You either choose to make the most of where life takes you or to resist and fight it every step of the way. As Christians, we have a duty to live for God, to surrender our expectations and desires and dreams to Him.
That’s why I recommend asking God to shape and guide your dreams. With Him leading there is no end in sight. New dreams, goals, and opportunities will always be there. Many will come in unbelievable ways. Not because of who you are, but rather Who God is. Serve and follow Him wholeheartedly and you can be sure that you will be living your dream.
Until Next Time!
Hope.
