High Standards

High Standards

High standards are so important for us to hold fast to. As Christians, giving God our best should be our ultimate goal, and what better way to give ourselves an edge than to keep our standards high?!

What are Standards?

Standards are a way that we measure things. A compass, so to speak, of what we believe. Different people have different standards. Some share many standards and while others have few in common.

The Ten Commandments are an excellent place to begin with determining your standards. Let me paraphrase them below:

  1. You should have no other gods before God
  2. You should not make idols
  3. You should not take the name of the Lord your God in vain
  4. Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy
  5. Honor your father and your mother
  6. Do not murder
  7. Do not commit adultery
  8. Do not steal
  9. Do not bear false witness
  10. Do not covet

These commands make a perfect foundation to begin establishing standards for your life. As you read the Bible and learn more about God, you will discover more depth and meaning in these simple commands. Though this task may seem daunting, don’t let it be. God equips His people for what He requires of them.

Keep it Simple

As is most often the case in life, it’s best to keep things simple. Standards are the same way. True you could get elaborate and fancy, but that typically leads to things getting complicated. And when things are complicated, we are quicker to drop them by the wayside. But rather, if you are concise and direct, it will be much easier to stick to what’s important.

As always, I encourage you to pray and ask God what standards He would specifically have you hold to. He generously gives wisdom and inspiration – we simply have to ask! Be sure to read your Bible too. God reveals Himself to us in a number of ways and it is our responsibility to be on the alert for His direction.

Stand Strong

As you determine your standards, share them with those around you that will encourage you and hold you accountable. Perhaps you want to make a list so that you can reference it and remind yourself of what God requires of you.

Remember, especially as you have opportunity to practice courage and boldness to take a stand, that God will bless you if you will follow His lead. When we forgo things that are not up to par, He will repay us with something better. It will probably take time, but know that a good and faithful servant does what is right for the simple pleasure of pleasing his master.

Courage

As you go about your day may you be blessed with a new courage to give God your best and not surrender your standards. Hold your head high, you are well equipped for where God has you! And just remember, you never know who you may be inspiring by your actions!

Until Next Time!

Hope.
